Mission:
The mission of the Public Policy Division is to monitor local, state and federal governmental issues and educate Chamber Members on topics that will affect their businesses.
COMMITTEES:
Local Government
The Local Government Committee monitors local government issues and provides timely information to the Chamber membership through newsletters, broadcasts, and other forms of communication. Its activities include hosting a “State of the City” luncheon to educate the community about current issues and initiatives.
State Government
The State Government Committee reviews and recommends, when deemed appropriate, action on statewide business issues. Its plans include meetings with state legislators and other state government officials and hosting periodically candidate forums to provide an opportunity for Chamber members to impact issues of direct interest to the business community.
Federal Government
The Federal Government Committee participates in an annual trip to Washington, D. C. to present to elected and appointed governmental officials the concerns of the business community, monitors federal legislation pertinent to Surry County and makes recommendations regarding that legislation to the Chamber’s Board of Directors, and promotes among Chamber members awareness of the impact of national issues upon the local business community. A primary function of this Committee is to maintain an open dialog with federal officials in an effort to assure adequate representation of community interests at the national level.
Membership in this Division and its Committees is open to all Chamber members.
