Mission:

The Education Support Committee is to act as a liaison between schools, Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce, and business and industry to enhance, support, and promote the quality of life in our community.

COMMITTEES/GOALS:

Youth Leadership Surry

Y.I.E.L.D

Twice each year students in the YIELD Program – Youth Interested in Economics, Leadership and Decision Making – meet for a day long session to explore leadership skills and team building.

Learning Ventures Mini-Grants Program for Teachers

Embarq provides funding for five $500 grants for teachers each year through a partnership with the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce.  Grants are awarded on a competitive basis and recipients are recognized at a luncheon, recipients from the previous year provide examples of their projects and the impact upon students.

New Teacher Incentive Program

In an effort to recruit new teachers to the community, the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce sponsors a New Teacher Incentive Package.  First year teachers and new teachers moving to Surry County are eligible in the Mount Airy City and the Surry County Schools, as well as Millennium Charter Academy.  Benefits of the New Teacher Incentive Program:

            *          Approximately $5000 in discount and free merchandise

            *          Over 25 businesses participate annually
